One of the profound truths I learned early in
my relationship with the writings of Ernest Holmes is that God is all there is.
It was the evolving awareness of this truth that supported major changes in my
life. After all, without the understanding that I inherently possess all the
attributes of God without having to earn them, I don't believe I could have
connected with the inner strength necessary to make the changes that have
blessedly occurred in my life.
Here is part of my story.
Prior to my introduction to Religious Science I became a realtor in Paradise,
CA in order to support my two children and myself. A few years later at the age
of 34, I attended the Paradise Church of Religious Science. It was here I
received a solid grounding in Science of Mind principles under the direction of
ministers John and Carolyn McKeown. Simply, the embodiment of Science of Mind
principles changed my life. I began to learn, to gain strength and to grow in a
manner that was new to me. This new perspective centered on my increasing
awareness that God is all there is, including me!
A few years later this
growing belief in myself manifested as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream: I
went back to the University of California at Chico to complete my degree. I had
recently completed fourth year Science of Mind classes and the vision I had for
my life was now larger than ever. I not only wanted my degree, but I wanted to
become a Science of Mind minister, too!
Prior to receiving my
Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies, I spent four months at the
University of London in England as part of a cultural immersion program. I
studied the artistic, social and religious aspects of British life. The
immersion program had a big effect on me; my trip abroad continued the process
of dissolving old, confining boundaries while limiting identities expanded to
include a larger concept of myself. More and more it seemed that anything was
possible. If I could think it, if I could believe it, it could and did
happen.
Upon my return to the United States I was hired as assistant minister of the Chico Church of Religious Science. Both John and Carolyn McKeown had moved the 20 miles from Paradise to Chico and now led the Religious Science church Carolyn founded there. I was working directly with my mentors, another dream come true!
Over the next 9 1/2 years I served as Assistant Minister, teaching a variety of Science of Mind classes, new member orientations, working with the youth program, leading volunteer teams and speaking on many Sundays.
I marvel at the changes that have occurred in my life since my introduction to Religious Science. The outer accomplishments while meaningful, pale to the continued growing joy of my oneness in the love of Spirit and the potential to create whatever I can imagine and believe in.
Today I am privileged to work with a dedicated group of people as the founding pastor of the Yuba-Sutter Religious Science Center for Spiritual Awakening. Established in November 2003, our vision of Awakening to Spirit, is an invitation to all wherever YOU are on your spiritual journey. If you have any questions or would like to discuss who we are and what we are about, please don't hesitate to call.
InJOY!
Christine
