The Religious Science
Teaching:
As a Divine being, you are the master of your
destiny. This is the great message Religious Science brings to
people of all faiths. It is a fresh concept of religion as a life philosophy
and a science. As a philosophy, Religious Science presents a practical,
down-to-earth way of thinking about the nature of the Universe and our
relationship to it. As a religion, it presents a philosophy that is both
mentally stimulating and emotionally satisfying. As a science, it presents
specific and definite ideas which you can demonstrate for yourself and directly
experience the benefits in your life.
There is a power for good in the Universe greater than you
areand you can use it! Science of Mind ® is a system of
mental and spiritual principles, combined with a technique for the application
of these principles. It is designed to live and expand consciousness in ways
that lead to an even higher order of livingness. It emphasizes the spiritual
connection of all, thus promoting peace and greater harmony at all levels of
experience. The consistent application of Religious Science results in health,
satisfying relationships, enhanced creativity, and prosperity.
Change your thinking and change your life!
Religious Science is not a closed system of thought. It grows continually as
humankind evolves, drawing on the frontiers of knowledge as well as the wisdom
of the ages.
What We Believe in
Science of Mind:
- We see God as a presence that is everywhere, not a
person.
- We consider heaven to be a state of mind, not a place.
- We believe that everyone's life is eternal and forever
expanding.
- We call God by different names such as Spirit or First
Cause to help eliminate the gender prejudice associated with God The Father,
and to see more accurately that there is One life back of everything that
lives.
- We practice, teach and use a form of affirmative prayer
that we call Spiritual Mind Treatment. We do this to heal, improve and expand
our experience of life.
- We identify God's power as a loving and perfect
intelligence from which everything is created.
- We depend upon the goodness of God to internally guide
and direct our actions with compassion, love and peace.
- We believe evil is ignorance and that people can act in
an evil manner because of their ignorance. We do not, however, believe evil is
inherent in anything or a power separate from God.
- We study the writings and lives of great spiritual
thinkers/leaders such as Jesus, Moses, Emerson, Thoreau, Plato, Socrates,
Aristotle, Buddha, Gandhi, Sri Aurobindo, Carl Jung, William James and more, in
order to learn of Spirit's unlimited power for good.
- We were founded by Dr. Ernest Holmes in the 1930's. He
was a student and spiritual teacher who based his understanding of how life
worked on the previously mentioned writers with a particular interest in the
teachings of Jesus and Eastern Religions. He is the author of, The Science of
Mind.
- We see similarities in our teachings with distinguished
contemporary writers such as Deepak Chopra, Joseph Campbell, Jean Huston,
Matthew Fox, Wayne Dyer, Maya Angelou, Ophra Winfrey, and many others.
- We consider ourselves a Spiritual New Thought approach
to life, not New Age spiritualism. We emphasize and believe God to be a
Universal Power for good that we can use to live peaceful, productive and
creative lives. We believe that all of life is sacred, eternal and divinely
guided.
Believe in the Truth of Who YOU Are! A message from Rev. Christine
New Thought churches and centers around the globe are emphasizing the power of the mind in achieving health and happiness. New Thought is a religious philosophy that has evolved from ancient wisdom traditions, world religions, and great philosophers. The transcendental movement lead by Ralph Waldo Emerson in the United States was key in creating a new way of looking at the relationship of the individual to the divine, of recognizing the Invisible Creator in all visible aspects of life. Unity and Religious Science (not to be confused with Christian Science or Scientology) are two branches of New Thought churches found in many communities.
Our teaching is grounded in the idea that there is a power for good in the universe, greater than we are, and we can use it. The power being referred to can be called God or the many other names that have been used to describe the Ultimate Reality, Divine Intelligence, Spirit, First Cause, The Absolute, Infinite Good and many more. This One is the creator of all expressing through us, around us, as us, according to our belief.
I believe there is a place within us that is looking to be inspired. We desire to rise up and live more from our God-given potential that is yet untapped. It is written that Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you.” I interpret that verse to say that everything you need in life exists as a seed of potential and is within you now.
You are a child of God - the omnipotent source of all. As a spiritual being, you do not inherit poverty, disease or limitation of any kind. These are experiences created out of beliefs and mind-sets that have forgotten who we are. The power for good, which is God, resides at the center of you and me. It is our spirit connected with the One Spirit activated by our thoughts and beliefs. Therefore, the response of this universal intelligence is precise in what is created according to what we have set in motion for ourselves. Dr. Wayne Dyer calls this the law of attraction. Scripture says, “It is done unto us as we believe.”
It is up to us to cultivate our divinity and we can. Just as God told Abraham to go and create a new nation, so too are we equipped with the ability to create newness in our lives. We are not here to grovel, beseech or pay penance for our sins. Jesus never referred to anyone as a sinner. He empowered all whom he encountered, calling each to seek the kingdom of the fullness of God potential within and then to go forth and live it.
How beautiful and peaceful a life and world we could create from that place of awareness. Take the time each day to listen and to become more aware of your divine potential. Attune and become one with your God-nature. You are here for a reason - to bring forth the kingdom of heaven here on earth in peace, joy, abundance and love, and you can. And so it is. Amen.
